Welcome to The Actor Works Your Space Your
School
The Actor Works offers a range of daytime and evening acting courses designed for acting students at different
levels of drama training. There is a one year part time evening course for complete beginners; a one year foundation course for younger students; a vocational two year full time evening and weekend course for those wishing to train for the profession, whilst maintaining the day job. Finally, we offer an intensive one year course for post graduate students; anyone looking to hone their skills or those returning to the business.
The school
is dedicated to offering a thorough and comprehensive drama training in a supportive and friendly environment. As well as
this, we value the importance of training all our students for life as an actor beyond the performing itself. As wonderful
and rewarding as it can be, we believe our students need to enter the business as aware of work that needs to go into making
a success of their career.
We believe that fame is an occupational hazard, rather than a goal at our drama school,
so, if you want to be a ‘star’ please look elsewhere. We are not for you.
However, if you want to become
a hard-working, easy-going company member, then do contact us.
The Actor Works is the only school in the country
that cites the teachings of late American acting practitioner, Viola Spolin, as its major influence on our ethos and training. We are not a ‘method’ school and – though we reference
the work of all major acting practitioners – we avoid the sometimes proscriptive systems of perhaps the more famous
names in favour of the more nurturing (though no less vigorous) Spolin ideal.
Please take a look at the site and
do not hestitate to contact us should you have any questions.
